Tucker Auto Coming to Ypsilanti!

We are offering a 10% room discount this weekend if you are coming to see the Tucker Automobile Here in Ypsilanti.

The Tucker Automobile Club of America is holding its annual convention this week in Ypsilanti. We have partnered with Motorcities National Heritage Area, an affliate of the National Parks Service, on producing a historic wayside sign commemorating Preston Tucker and the Tucker car, and would like to use this opportunity to showcase the city's contribution to automotive history.

In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Tucker automobile the theme of this year's TACA convention is “Birthplace of the Dream.”

This Friday afternoon, between 2:30 - 3:30pm we will be unveiling a mock-up of the sign in front of the orginal Preston and Vera Tucker home at 110 North Park St., and designating it as an automotive heritage site. RM Auctions of Canada has graciously brought Tucker #1038 from the west coast to showcase in front of the house during this presentation, creating a great photo opportunity.

It is our hope to shine the spotlight on Ypsilanti through this great photo opportunity for the press. Given the 60th anniversary of the Tucker, his home and hometown receiving recognition, and having an original 1948 Tucker in front of the Tucker house, this will be an historic event in itself.

The Tucker Automobile Club of America would be delighted to have representives from MotorCities National Heritage Area and the Mayor's office join myself and Terry Lobzun as we unveil this sign.

Attached please find a pdf of the sign, a photo of Tucker #1038, and the Tucker home today.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope that you can join us on Friday.

Best Regards,

Jay

Jay A. Follis, President - Tucker Automobile Club of America, Inc.
Director - Tucker Historical Collection and Library
at GILMORE CAR MUSEUM
6865 Hickory Road,
Hickory Corners, MI 49060
PH. 269-671-5089 ext. 13
FAX 269-671-5843
www.TuckerClub.org <http://www.tuckerclub.org/>

The Tucker Automobile Club of America, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) Non–Profit Corporation organized under the laws of the State of Indiana.

Vacation at home, Be a tourist in hometown Ypsilanti this weekend

A warm Ypsilanti Thank You! to those of you who participated last week during Ypsi Pride Day 2008!

Save gas this holiday weekend. Be a tourist in your hometown. Visit one of Ypsilanti’s museums, cook-out in one of beautiful parks, dine out at that restaurant you have been meaning to checkout or re-visit an old favorite, buy a hometown souvenir, visit the Depot Town Farmers Market on Saturday and the Downtown Farmers Market on Tuesday. Pay your respects to those who have dedicated their lives to serving their country at the Memorial Day Processional.

The Memorial Day Processional begins at 9 am on Monday. The route begins at S. Huron and Ferris Street, proceeds down Huron to Cross, then south on Cross to River Street. The Processional ends at Highland Cemetery with a service for the nations fallen heroes.

There are two beautiful Bed and Breakfast in the downtown Ypsilanti area. Both the Parrish House Inn (www.parishhouseinn.com) and the Queens Residence (www.queensresidence.com) have space for guests this weekend. Spoil yourself. No need to drive far to spend an elegant/luxurious evening or weekend at a hotel anywhere else. These Innkeepers live, work and love the community that you have chosen to call home.

Ypsilanti is home to several fine museums:
Michigan Firehouse Museum 110 W. Cross Street (4 walkable blocks from the downtown) www.michiganfirehousemuseum.org Hours: Tues-Fri 10-4, Sat 10-4, Sun 12-4.
City of Ypsilanti Parking

It will be hard to tell visitors to Ypsilanti about the parking in Ypsilanti and why they must go to Ann Arbor instead.

If this happened to one of my guests I can only guess what our reviews would be like.

The City of Ypsilanti does not have a local place to contest parking fines and penalties. They must be addressed through a private company in Grand Blank by phone (if you can get a real person.) This is why I am sending out my complaint by email and posting on My Blog at www.queensresidence.com

On March 5 2008 my wife got a parking ticket for expired meter. The officer who issued the ticket explained to Marla that the fine needed to be sent in, On March 9th the check was mailed to Grand Blank. On March 17th the check was deposited and the check cleared our bank on March 18th (please see attached check)

We got a notice (the notice is not dated) saying we paid the ticket too late and owe another $15.00 due upon receipt. We need mail the balance due 7 to 10 days before the due date to avoid further penalties.

Nowhere on the ticket did it say we could pay it locally, the issuing officer stated it had to be mailed. Grand Blank says because we mailed it in it was automatically late and late charges apply.

Nice way to make extra money and lower complaints at the same time.
